The Boeckman Buzz
January 23rd-January 27th
A Note from Principal Sage
BMS Families,
It was another exceptional week for our choir students! Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade choirs! We are proud of you!
As we approach the end of January, we will start sending out more frequent communication around registration for the 2023-2024 school year. We will send out a detailed email on January 30th explaining timelines and our process. We will have lots of support available to ensure that each family gets their child registered for the appropriate classes.
FHS staff will be visiting 8th graders at Boeckman Middle School from January 24th - 26th to provide your child with the necessary information to register for the 2023-2024 school year.
As a friendly reminder, our next Parent Ambassador meeting will be on February 7th at 6:00 pm in the BMS Media Center. During this meeting, we will discuss spring conferences, friendly presence at BMS, teacher appreciation week and more! All information discussed in this meeting will also be communicated out through our newsletter. If you are interested in volunteering in our schools, please fill out this link. We will be reaching out to our volunteers this week!
Next week we will be hosting our first annual "Half Way Day" for our 6th graders during their WIN time. During this celebration, we will recognize our learners for their accomplishments and for making it halfway through their K-12 experience. We will post photos of the event in next week's newsletter!
On Tuesday, our BMS bands will be performing concerts at the FHS Recital Hall. Concerts will be at 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Students can be dropped off at door #7. We look forward to another great week of performances!
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

From the Special Education Office
If your child or children receive special education services, please note you will be receiving or have already received an email from SpEd Forms asking for you to create a parent account. This is not spam. SpEd Forms is the platform the district uses for special education service paperwork. Creating an account through SpEd Forms will allow you to have electronic access to your child's special education paperwork. It also will provide you with the ability to E-sign any paperwork where a parent's signature is needed.
Here is what the email from SpEd Forms will look like:

6th Grade Opportunity - History Pass
Sixth graders can go to any MNHS location for FREE! It's a great way for children to explore history during non-school hours.
Any child who is in 6th grade during the 2022-23 school year is eligible for this pass. The pass provides free admittance for the 6th grader (not parents or siblings) to Minnesota Historical Society sites and museums through August 31, 2023. Not valid for field trips, paid programs or specially priced exhibits.
WINTER NWEA MAP Test - January 9-February 10, 2023
Beginning January 9, some learners may be asked to participate in the NWEA MAP test. The NWEA MAP tests are adaptive computer delivered assessments that are administered to more than 11 million students across the country, which provides a large National Norm sample for comparison. Farmington Schools chooses to administer tests in reading and math to students in grades 2 through 8. The adaptive nature of the tests means that the test adjusts to the student's responses. As a student answers correctly, the test gets more challenging. As they get items wrong, the test presents easier items. The purpose of the assessment is to identify the student's academic level in the specific content area, regardless of age, grade level or prior achievement.
To read more about the NWEA MAP test, please visit the school website, linked here. There is a link to the Opt Out information for both the NWEA MAP tests on the left side of the webpage. Please complete the form and return it to the front office. *Please note that if you Opted out in the fall, you do not need to resubmit the opt out form for the remainder of the year.
January - 7 Mindsets Theme: Live to Give
Make a Difference – The easiest and quickest way to feel better and become happier is to help someone else. Similarly, the best way to bring more good things into our lives is to start giving. When we do this, we create value with our lives and begin to receive value in return. In order to start or expand the flow of abundance in our lives, we must simply start making a difference every day in every little way that we can. 3.
Receive Gracefully – One of the hardest things for people to deal with when they start living their dreams is that they’re uncomfortable receiving the new and wonderful things that come into their lives. They may not feel worthy or know how to react. As a result, when opportunity knocks or people want to help them, they shut the door and don’t allow themselves to accept what the universe is offering them. The problem is that these gifts could be a source of joy, fulfillment, and opportunity to their lives. If we don’t receive gracefully, we cut off the cycle of giving and limit our own potential. 4.
Create a Legacy – The only thing left when we leave this life is the impact we had on others and the world. The true meaning of our lives is only apparent when it transcends us. That’s why it’s vital to find those things that we’re passionate about and orient our lives around the legacy we want to leave. We must make our lives transcend us.
