The Boeckman Buzz
December 12th-December 16th
A Note from Principal Sage
BMS Families,
Our first trimester of the school year ended last week. A reminder that this year families can check learning levels in Campus to get a real time overview of learning. The end of the trimester is a great time to take a look at your student’s progress in their content area classes, as well as their Personal Skills for Success. Here is a flyer on how you can get a snapshot of their learning through Infinite Campus. If you have any questions please talk to your learner or reach out to their teacher.
A highlight coming out of BMS this week was our courage retreat, which all 8th grade learners participated in. Youth Frontiers (YF) is a nonprofit organization that has been delivering retreats to schools since 1987. They provide schools with experiences that inspire character, civility and community so that our next generation of leaders is grounded in character. On the Courage Retreat, the YF Programs Staff focus on creating a more positive school community by engaging learners in a variety of activities that enhance self-confidence, empathy and connectedness. It is a powerful event for our learners as we continue to build an exceptional learner culture.
December also brings a new 7 Mindsets theme, Live to Give. In transitions classes learners will learn about and reflect on the four critical components of:
- Stretch Yourself
- Make a Difference
- Receive Gratefully
- Create a Legacy
The Live to Give Mindset teaches the importance of serving others while maximizing our own potential. It tells us that abundance in life is a cycle; in order to receive love, respect, and financial security, we must first learn to give those things to others. This mindset also teaches us that the greatest gift we can ever give is to find and leverage our unique genius to maximize our positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to us in kind. In the lessons for this mindset, we guide students to think about the impact they want to make and the legacy they want to leave.
As a reminder, we will holding a Parent Ambassador Meeting this Tuesday at 5:30 pm in the BMS Media Center.
We are looking forward to another great week. Thank you for your continued support!

A message from our Health Office
Respiratory illness, including Influenza (flu), Covid-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), have increased significantly in Minnesota in the past several weeks.
Flu and RSV spread each year in Minnesota during the late fall and winter months. This year, we have an early season with a lot of spread, impacting pediatric capacity at hospitals, primary care clinics, and emergency rooms throughout Minnesota.
Symptoms
- Symptoms of Flu and RSV include: a runny nose, sneezing, chills, fatigue, fever, muscle aches, sore throat, headache, and cough.
- nfluenza is not “stomach flu”, a term used by some to describe illnesses causing vomiting or diarrhea.
- Symptoms in many children and adults are generally mild.
- Flu can be severe in children less than 5 years, particularly those under 2 years and those with underlying health conditions.
- RSV can be severe especially in young infants and children with underlying heath conditions.
To limit the spread of Flu, RSV, and other viral respiratory diseases:
- Get the flu vaccine. Make sure Covid -19 boosters are up to date.
- Keep children home from school when they are sick with a fever of 100 degrees or higher-without fever reducing medication.
- Keep children home if they are unable to participate in regular activities.
- Encourage students to cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Encourage students to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water frequently, especially after coughing/sneezing.
- If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
- Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces (e.g., doorknobs) daily, or every 6 hours if children are sick.
- Do not allow sharing of anything that goes into the mouth (e.g., water bottles).
- Clean and sanitize toys, objects, and surfaces daily, and more often if children are sick.
- Masks can be worn to prevent the spread of illness.
Return to school
- Students with flu can or RSV can return to school when they have been fever-free for 24 hours (without use of fever reducing medication) when they feel well enough to participate in routine activities.
- Students who test positive for Covid-19 can return to school 5 days after the onset of symptoms if they are fever free and able to participate in routine activities. Mask use is encouraged for 5 days upon return to school.
- Students should be able to eat and drink normally, have no respiratory difficulty, be alert and active and not have large amounts of secretions before return to school.
Thanks so much and stay healthy!
