The Boeckman Buzz
September 12th - September 16th
A Note from Principal Sage
BMS Families,
It was very exciting to welcome all of our learners back into the building last week! Our classrooms and hallways were full of learning, laughter and smiles. Our learners did a wonderful job adjusting to be being back in school full time and I know they will continue to grow.
I had the opportunity to spend time in many of our classrooms this week. I observed learners collaborating, engaging in discussion, and critically thinking.
This week, we focused on intentionally teaching our expectations and what it means to “Show your Stripes”. At Boeckman, our community developed three core values of Be Respectful, Show Compassion and Have Integrity. With each of these core values we have defined what it looks like in different areas throughout the school. We will continue to teach these expectations as we continue to build our learning community for the 22-23 school year.
We are looking forward to another great week at BMS.

Drills for the 2022-23 School Year
Farmington Schools continue to review current research and update safety plans each year. Throughout the school year, we will practice and engage students in conversations about how we would respond in different situations (i.e. Fire Drill, Tornado Drill, and Run-Hide-Fight). Next week during Tiger Connections at Boeckman Middle School, we will engage our students in a common presentation and conversation about this enhanced approach to emergency preparedness.
Students will have opportunities to ask questions, seek clarification, and become even more familiar with their surroundings around our school campus. We will also familiarize our students to what the lockdown tone sounds like and demonstrate our blue indicating a Run-Hide-Fight situation. To read more about this, please click here.
FALL NWEA MAP Test – September 19 to October 14
Beginning September 19, students will be asked to participate in the NWEA MAP test. The NWEA MAP tests are adaptive computer delivered assessments that are administered to more than 11 million students across the country, which provides a large National Norm sample for comparison. Farmington Schools chooses to administer tests in reading and math to students in grades 2 through 8. The adaptive nature of the tests means that the test adjusts to the student's responses. As a student answers correctly, the test gets more challenging. As they get items wrong, the test presents easier items. The purpose of the assessment is to identify the student's academic level in the specific content area, regardless of age, grade level or prior achievement.
To read more about the NWEA test, please visit the school website, linked here. There is a link to the Opt Out information for both the NWEA tests on the left side of the webpage. You may use the 21-22 school year form if needed. Please return all forms to the front office.

Job prior to coming to BMS:
8th & 9th Grade Spanish at the Math & Science Academy of Woodbury, MN
What Colleges/Universities did you attend?
Concordia College (BA – Spanish Education), Saint Mary’s University of MN (M.Ed. – Learning Design & Technology), & Western Governors University (MS – Curriculum & Instruction)!
What is something people are sometimes surprised to learn about you?
I love to plan events, like parties & events! My family always comes to me when they’re hosting an event so I can help!
Who is the best teacher you’ve ever had and why were they the best?
The best teacher I ever had was my high school Calculus teacher, Mr. Matt Lissick! Math was always a hard subject for me, and I wanted to challenge myself and take Calculus my senior year of high school but it made me very nervous. Throughout the class, Mr. Lissick went beyond just teaching us math – he made sure that he answered every question that we had, gave us time to explore and learn through non-traditional methods (like hands-on examples and multiple practice opportunities), and made math fun by connecting it to our lives. We also did Mindtrap tournaments every trimester which brought us out of math for a bit & let us work together as a class to defeat the other classes. Mr. Lissick made math memorable, understandable, and fun for me!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Completing my two Master’s degrees, one during the pandemic! I love learning and finding new ways to teach things to students, so it was more fun than work for me! I hold degrees in Learning Design & Technology and Curriculum & Instruction!
What is the furthest you have ever been from home?
I studied abroad in Trujillo, Peru the summer after I graduated from college to gain Spanish skills, experience life with a host family, and teach Spanish language arts to middle schoolers at a private school! It’s one of my most favorite experiences ever.
What is a quotation you find meaningful?
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
What interests you outside of the school?
It’s hard to find me without my Kindle in my hand – I read almost every chance I get! I also love cooking and baking, finding most of my recipes on Tik Tok, and love to share what I’ve made with those around me!
What is one big goal you have for this school year?
I want to make a positive connection, in some way, with at least one student from every class I teach every day.

Any student that does not have a current user agreement and protection plan selection will not receive his/her iPad until the required documentation is received. You can access the iPad Loan Agreement and indicate your iPad protection plan preference by going to the main district iPad Loan Agreement page.
***Families/Students that elected to sign out their iPads for the summer DO NOT need to complete any of the above steps as you completed everything in the spring. You are set to go for the school year!
+++If you receive free or reduced lunch, have applied for, and have been approved for Educational Benefits for 2022-23, the fee to enroll in the iPad Protection Plan should show as zero. The application for Educational Benefits must be filled out every year.
